PROBLEMS WHEN designing show unit Rustic Style – Cement Walnut

How to keep rustic style from feeling “rough” or outdated? Rustic elements can easily feel heavy or outdated if not properly balanced and paired with the right materials. How to handle dark concrete and wood materials while keeping the space bright and airy? The cement–walnut color palette is inherently deep; without careful treatment, it can make the space feel dark and uninspiring. Creating a show apartment that is practical and relatable for buyers The model apartment should evoke emotion while remaining smart and functional in design, so that customers can easily envision applying it in their own homes.

Design proposals for each category

Co-IDB proposed a Modern Rustic interior design solution, creating a coherent combination of the two main materials: polished concrete (cement finish) and dark walnut wood. The rustic style is carefully moderated so the space does not feel overly raw or heavy, evolving instead into an “urban rustic” aesthetic—natural yet elegant and modern.

Key Design Highlights

1. Living Room – Where Natural Elements Speak

A smoky gray linen sofa pairs with a rough-cut oak coffee table featuring black metal legs. The wall behind the sofa is painted in a concrete-effect finish, accented with large canvas artwork and warm spotlighting. The solid walnut TV unit and dark wood flooring are highlighted by a coarse-fiber woven rug at the center.

2. Kitchen & Dining Area – Neat and Full of Character

Lower kitchen cabinets are finished in walnut-grain laminate with a matte gray granite countertop and matte black metal handles. Pendant lights with steel cages and Edison bulbs provide visual highlights. The four-seat dining table is crafted from solid wood, with thick fabric-covered chairs in earthy tones—minimalist yet cozy.

3. Bedroom – A Rustic and Relaxing Retreat

A low Japanese-style wooden bed with a canvas-upholstered headboard defines the room. The headboard wall features horizontal wood slats with hanging reading lights from the ceiling. Flat-front walnut veneer wardrobes are combined with a small work corner by the window. Light-colored linen curtains allow natural light while maintaining privacy.

4. Bathroom – Simple, Clean, and Inviting

Walls are clad in cement-effect tiles, with a built-in walnut veneer vanity and a black-framed mirror. The shower area uses glass partitions and matching matte black fixtures. The overall look is clean, natural, and minimal—true to the modern rustic spirit.

5. Decorative Details & Lighting

Decorative lighting features raw metal or exposed hanging cords with warm light. Accessories include ceramic vases, rough wood shelving, and large-leaf greenery to bring life to the space. The result is a rustic environment that feels natural, warm, and emotionally engaging.
