TogglePlastic furniture is currently attracting attention in the design industry with many new materials, most notably PVC. PVC material is favored for its outstanding features and flexible applications in interior design. Despite being on the market for 5 years, PVC remains a relatively new name for many Vietnamese businesses. Join Co-IDB as we explore the benefits and applications of this material in the article below and find out why it is a top choice for modern interiors.

What is PVC Furniture?
PVC plastic, stands for Polyvinyl Chloride, is a synthetic material made from vinyl chloride when exposed to sunlight. In reality, PVC resin usually appears as a yellow or white powder and is non-toxic to humans unless other catalysts are added.
However, PVC resin has poor load-bearing capacity on its own, so during production, additives such as ABS or MBS are usually added to improve the toughness and flexibility of the product. Today, PVC has become one of the most common materials, ranking third in global usage after PE and PP.
Advantages of PVC Furniture in Design
PVC is increasingly becoming a popular choice in interior design thanks to the following outstanding characteristics:
-
Absolute Waterproofing: Eliminates worries about mold, deformation, and warping, especially in environments frequently exposed to water.
-
Effective Termite Resistance: Containing no cellulose, PVC is not attacked by termites, overcoming the primary disadvantage of natural wood interior materials.
-
High Durability: Withstands humid environments, alkalis, mild acids, and seawater, with a lifespan of up to 20 – 30 years.
-
Fire Retardancy: It does not sustain a flame, reducing the risk of fire spreading, making it suitable for office interiors, apartments, and recreational areas.

Furthermore, modern PVC is produced from carefully selected raw materials, free of impurities or harmful substances, ensuring health safety for users.
Applications of PVC in Today’s Office Spaces
Application in Cabinets and Shelving
In office pantry design, choosing the material for cabinets is equally important. PVC kitchen cabinets are becoming a favorite due to their superior benefits such as being termite-proof, waterproof, and easy to clean. Additionally, PVC offers a variety of colors and surfaces that can mimic stone or wood grain, helping businesses easily choose a suitable style.

Application in Partition Design
In modern office design, heavy walls have given way to flexible partitions that create open spaces while maintaining privacy. Besides glass partitions, PVC partitions are preferred for their smooth surfaces, diverse patterns, and excellent breathability. With reasonable costs, these partitions provide a sophisticated look while optimizing office space.

Application in Furniture Production
Along with metal interior materials, PVC is gradually becoming a superior choice for furniture production. Capable of replacing natural and industrial wood, PVC is widely used to manufacture items such as filing cabinets, TV stands, and workstations. It offers various thickness options and a smooth finish, meeting both aesthetic and quality requirements.

Application in Wall and Ceiling Panels
A popular application of PVC sheets in office spaces is for ceiling and wall cladding. Offering cost savings and ease of installation, PVC still ensures high aesthetics and safety. Specifically, faux stone and wood grain surfaces enhance the luxury and modernity of office surfaces.

Types of PVC Wall Cladding Panels
Modern PVC wall panels are diverse in design but all share the commonality of being produced from virgin resin and natural components. The three most popular types are faux stone, wood grain, and fluted (lam sóng) panels.
Wood Grain PVC Panels
Increasingly favored in modern offices, wood grain PVC panels offer up to 90% realism compared to natural wood. They provide a luxurious and sophisticated beauty while remaining fire-resistant, termite-proof, and easy to maintain. This is an ideal choice for high-humidity areas like restrooms or kitchen pantries.

Stone Grain PVC Panels
Faux stone panels, also known as stone grain PVC, are an excellent alternative to natural stone for office decoration. With natural patterns and 99% realism, this material not only brings elegance but also saves on construction costs. It boasts water resistance, mold resistance, and a lifespan of up to 15 years.
Fluted PVC Panels (Lam Song)
In modern office design, fluted PVC panels are becoming the ideal replacement for traditional painted wood or tiles. With a hollow structure, they are lightweight and provide effective thermal insulation. The corrugated design creates a unique accent, making the office space stand out while providing a modern and convenient working environment.
